The Educational Specialist II - Career Readiness executes the College and Career Readiness Office's vision that all students have a caring adult and all students have a plan through a career readiness lens. This role independently leads major initiatives that will ultimately contribute to Baltimore City Public School students earning career in in-demand, high wage careers that they are passionate about. Potential key initiatives include Perkins grant development and implementation, leading work-based learning deliverables, leading staff professional development, or serving as a CTE pathway lead.

Essential Functions
  • An expert in assigned career readiness disciplines and CTE pathways. Responsible for ensuring, as budget allows, that staff have access to the resources and professional development to successfully teach students.
  • Regularly disseminates up-to-date information and research data to school staff, students, parents, and community members regarding career readiness.
  • Works collaboratively with community agencies and the business community to develop programs that support student internships, mentoring, job shadowing, etc.
  • Maintains accurate records of students participating in career readiness activities (i.e., WBL, CTSO, Industry Certifications, etc.)
  • Assists with the administration of District career readiness programs (i.e., CTE, apprenticeship programs) including the preparation of annual reports and articulation with postsecondary institutions.
  • Remains informed of any changes in laws and policies related to career readiness.
  • Works closely with counselors, work-based learning coordinators, and other school staff to ensure students have clear understanding of District pathways, aligned course offerings, and completion requirements.
  • Makes recommendations and executes for development related to college and career readiness.
  • Actively participates in or leads PLC collaboration meetings and supports the PLC process.
  • Leads the recruitment for and coordination of citywide career readiness committees such as Program Advisory Committees and the Local Advisory council, as needed.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance existing skills in standards for college and career readiness and ability to connect students to post-secondary and sustainable career paths.
  • Coordinates and facilitates relevant workshops/presentations and in-services to City Schools staff and community stakeholders.
  • Manages and updates career readiness resources for City Schools.
  • Collects and analyzes relevant student achievement and program data to inform improvement efforts, including post-graduate placement data.
  • Assists with the development and/or implementation of career readiness curriculum.
  • Supports the process for selecting/adopting and procuring career readiness materials and resources.
  • Engages in discussions with City Schools staff to encourage reflection on effectiveness of strategies for preparing students for college and career.
  • Utilizes tact and exercises good judgment in interacting with school and central office personnel and provides content knowledge and expertise.

Maximum Salary 100999.00

Minimum Salary 77059.00

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor?s degree in a related field from an accredited college or institution.
  • At least five years of combined experience as a teacher, school counselor, school administrator, district-office worker, or in the workforce development field required, CTE-specific experience is preferred.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Successful, in quantifiable terms, project management or educator experience required.
  • Effective leadership, management, and organizational skills required.
  • Knowledge of current theory of instruction, assessment, curriculum, and workforce development trends required.
  • Experience serving African American and Latino/a students between the ages of 13 and 24 highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical audiences, in conducting formal presentations and preparing reports.
  • Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google, and Baltimore City Schools applications preferred.
