Job Description

The Learning and Development (L&D) Manager is responsible for planning and implementing a year-long professional development strategy to prepare City Year Providence’s 60 AmeriCorps members to deliver high-quality and high-impact service to students in five Providence schools while increasing their leadership capacity and skills. The L&D Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring corps members are prepared with the proper training and learning opportunities throughout their service year. The L&D Manager will report to the Managing Director of Impact.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the implementation of a holistic 10-month learning and development strategy for the City Year Providence corps, ensuring content and delivery is aligned with the corps member service implementation calendar and leadership development cycle
  • Manage the planning, logistics, communication, and content of L&D events throughout the year, including a four-week training academy in August, a three-day leadership academy December, a one-week summit in January and bi-weekly L&D events held throughout the year
  • Evaluate L&D initiatives using qualitative and quantitative assessment tools, including weekly in-school observations, surveys, stakeholder roundtables, etc. to ensure programming meets corps member, manager, and school service partner needs
  • Coordinate monthly instructional rounds with internal and external colleagues to assess learning & development needs for corps and staff
  • Oversee City Year’s national leadership development experience – the Idealist’s Journey – for corps and senior corps members, providing a structured reflection for members to connect personal purpose, values, and insights with their service experience
  • Coordinate City Year’s Leadership After City Year (LACY) programs, such as resume writing workshops, graduate school presentations and personal coaching/mentorship, to support AmeriCorps members with defining their post-AmeriCorps academic and/or career path
  • Vet and secure internal and external content experts to lead and facilitate content-based learning workshops in areas including English Language Arts, math, student attendance, and behavior management, lesson planning, tutoring and mentoring
  • Develop facilitation skills and content delivery methods for staff members supporting corps members in service
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of trainers, venues and other L&D resources located within Providence and surrounding communities; leverage relationships within and outside of City Year to direct strategic partnerships and build local L&D network

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education, organizational development, human resources, or related field strongly preferred
  • Three years’ experience in related field required; professional development, learning or training-related experience preferred
  • Content expertise in English Language Arts, math or youth development preferred
  • Experience supporting classrooms, schools or similar learning environment preferred
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating trainings using adult learning principals, interactive learning technology, competency models and evaluation tools
  • Proven success in building sustainable partnerships and positive working relationships with others
  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to communicate a vision and inspire others
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to solve problems and see projects through start-to-finish while working individually or on a team
  • Proven success operating in ambiguous and changing environments with the ability to manage and prioritize projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms and online survey tools required
  • Passion for and understanding of City Year’s work within the national service movement and education sphere
