Job Description

KIPP DC is a network of high-performing, college-preparatory charter schools in Washington D.C. which serve the city’s under-resourced communities. Data Analysts are responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting on school- and district-level student and academic data. Data Analysts are also responsible for implementing organizational data strategies around driving decision making and instructional practices through analyses and capacity building at the schools. Data Analysts work primarily on KIPP DC’s school campuses, working closely with our school leaders, teachers, and other instructional staff. The Data Analysts report to the Director of Data.

Data Analysts serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP DC’s staff, including opportunities to assist with student recruitment and enrichment activities, supporting school-level operations and assessment administration as needed, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP DC’s mission.

A data analyst’s work falls into three interdependent categories:

Data Analysis, Application, and Action

Conduct analytical work on outputs from KIPP DC’s student information system, student assessments, teacher evaluations, data warehouse, and other organizational data platforms.
Translate data into relevant insights and implications relevant to a given audience, anticipating and empathizing with stakeholder reactions.
Regularly monitor key metrics and report significant changes or trends.
Design, implement, and monitor the use of real-time data dashboards and platforms to support strategic decisions at the headquarters and school levels. Seek feedback from teammates and end users to improve the product. Provide training and coaching on tool use.

Data Management

Maintain and manage student, teacher, and organizational data related to student assessments, academics, attendance, and behavior to inform instructional practices and organizational decisions.
Develop an understanding of KIPP DC’s data model and systems integration processes to enable tool building and data quality investigations.
Assist with the coordination and administration of school level assessments such as ANet benchmarks and NWEA assessments.
Develop and maintain documentation for data collection, management, and integration processes.

Data Strategy

Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders in order to encourage questions and surface opportunities to provide support.
Assist in building capacity among stakeholders to better use academic data, analytical tools, instructional technology, and rigorous analyses to improve instructional planning, monitor student and school progress, and drive student growth and achievement.
Work with teammates to analyze current and future data needs of teams and departments. Participate in planning a data strategy to meet needs.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degrees preferred.

  • Advanced skills with MS Excel.
  • Experience as a teacher or in the education field is a plus
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlikview).
  • Experience training and communicating data and analytics products to audiences of varying levels of expertise.
  • Experience programming in data analysis languages and/or software (i.e. SQL, R, Stata, SPSS).
