Role Mission: IDEA's Managing Director of Human Resources is the organizational expert charged with leading human resources, employee relations , investigations, and legal/regulatory compliance at the national and regional levels, ensuring achievement of key human capital objectives including staff retention and organizational health. The Managing Director will build and develop a team of HR staff to provide regional support in these areas.


Serve as the in-house expert on all matters related to human resources, employee relations, investigations, and compliance
  • Directly or indirectly manage all regional HR staff; set vision for role, develop regional staff to fulfill vision while meeting regional needs
  • Observe in the field and coach regional HR staff
  • Develop HR staff in alignment with IDEA and Human Assets vision

Lead District-wide work with impact t o all-staff, cross-functional teams that support reduced risk, improved systems , and fiscally sound operations
  • Lead HR team's work for crisis response [ i .e. COVID]
  • Imp rove systems , including exit process and progressive discipline
  • Improve staff experience through benefits like Sick Leave Bank
  • Enhance manager experience through process improvements such as Annual Renewals
  • Improve business partnerships, functional reputation , and professional capital across the organization

Coach and develop the HR team to ensure there is a strategy and plan to meet the goals and provide exemplar level of customer service

  • Ensure escalation protocol for staff relations cases are followed accordingly
  • Review past employee and parent concerns and issues related to investigation area for problem solving; work with regional leadership to develop consistent practices around performance and accountability
  • Ensure Regional MD s , Directors , and Managers are coaching and developing HR Clerks to success

80% retention of staff in their first year at IDEA
  • Work across the Human Assets and HR team and in partnership with other HQ teams to develop and execute strategies to drive progress in retention
  • Continuous ly review staff retention and turnover data; support , develop , implement , monitor action plans around findings to increase retention of A players
  • Partner with other Human Assets leaders to align human capital strategies (succession planning, talent reviews, staff engagement)
  • Promote a "grow and develop" mindset within IDEA leaders and support them to be able to: make good employment decisions, develop and support capable staff, provide managerial leadership, mentoring and direction, conduct crucial conversations, and identify and implement improvement strategies for specific skills and mindsets

100% Regulatory Compliance - Implement organizational compliance management program to streamline compliance, risk management , and governance practices across the organization
  • Develop vision and strategy and identif y metrics for compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations dealing with personnel, student business and operational is sues , including educator credentials and certifications, background and criminal history management, staff and student grievances
  • Systematize organizational compliance responsibilities and ensure reviews are completed on a timely basis and corrective action is resolved in coordination with management as necessary (employment requirements, certifications, federal/state regulations, financial and grant requirements)
  • Strategize with risk management and internal audit to ensure risk areas are properly identified and control s are in place to mitigate risk
  • Ensure all grievances (levels I, II and II) for the organization achieve either a resolution or recommendation based on the hearing findings
  • Position IDEA in good standing with all authorizers, legal agencies and stakeholders (TEA, DOL, USDOE, External Auditors, Charter Authorizers, SBEC, TRS)
  • Provide guidance and , when appropriate , manage process for court and legal matters
  • Oversee monthly and annual audits (I-9, fingerprints, criminal background checks, external audits, etc.)
  • Collaborate and train recruiters, selectors, hiring managers and new hires team to understand, identify, and troubleshoot licensing/certification requirements based on applicable role

IDEA staff are developed professionally to avoid inappropriate behavior that causes unhealthy workplaces and may result in disciplinary action, such that 100% of staff and offic ers complete all required t rainings - with 9 5 % completing by deadline
  • Continually review, update , and improve annual compliance training modules to provide exceptional training to all IDEA staff
  • Develop a strategy and content for HR training including exiting low performers, effective investigations, sexual harassment, and expulsion process
  • Lead professional development to build manager knowledge and skills
  • Provide leadership on HR training initiatives and partner closely with leaders to develop consistent strategies and tactics to support when managing change
  • Coach HR team members to effectively deliver and design adult learning programs/training sessions independently

  • Ensure all unemployment claims are responded to by the deadline
  • Develop HR trainings to support managers in proper documentation and disciplinary actions to support the unemployment claim process
  • Oversee c oach ing and develop ing of leaders on how to effectively use progressive discipline to correct behaviors and reset expectations by providing feedback on performance improvement plans

  • Education: Bachelor ' s degree required ; Master 's d egree in relevant field p referred
  • Experience:
    • At least eight years of experience in Human Capital and HR
    • At least three years of successful management experience
    • Experience in managing and implementing multiple projects
    • Strong business partnership experience
  • Licenses o r Certifications : SPHR or PHR required
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of basic principles and practices of human resources management
    • Strong understanding of management principles and personnel supervision
    • Knowledge of school employment law, personnel law, and hearing procedures
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data and statistics
    • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $ 91,100 and $ 112,900 , commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
