- Lead KIPP Texas-DFW team in strategic student data analysis, progress monitoring, and collaborative action planning.
- Be goal-driven in instruction and focused on producing measurable results that close the achievement gap for ALL students.
- Interact respectfully with students, parents and faculty members, even in challenging circumstances.
- Create, utilize and reflect upon long-term plans, unit plans, unit assessments, and weekly lesson plans in instructional practice.
- Planning, preparing and delivering appropriate lessons using a variety of presentation methods in order to keep students engaged and meet their individual needs.
- Utilizing methods that make learning relevant to ALL students.
- Communicating higher level thinking strategies and problem solving techniques appropriate for challenging and building these skills in learners.
- Creating and maintaining a positive environment that promotes good behavior and reflects IMPACT values.
- Managing student behavior in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior.
- Informing and counseling students and parents when social issues arise, demonstrating a nurturing and concerned nature.
- Collaborate with lead teachers to support students in the general education classroom through a variety of methods, including: co-teaching, push-in, pull-out, teacher professional development, etc.
- Develop a strong knowledge of special education law, the Response to Intervention model, and IEP management.
- Maintain compliance with any and all school, local, state, and federal legislation.
- Maintain effective referral and Response to Intervention process for students considered at risk who have not been designated as having a disability.
- Collaborate with special education teachers at KIPP DFW's partner schools to streamline processes and service provision.
- Communicate effectively with families, service providers, psychologists, school leader, and general education teachers to support the needs of students with special needs.
- Set clear and measurable goals for students and consistently document progress towards meeting these goals.
- Building relationships with parents by communicating frequently to inform them of student academic and personal growth.
- Supporting and encouraging students on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties.
- Correcting work and giving appropriate encouraging feedback.
- Assessing student progress to inform students of growth and to modify instruction.
- Recording, sharing, and posting grades.
- Maintaining up-to-date records of students' progress and development.
- Researching new topic areas and maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge.
- Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment to challenge and motivate students.
- Preparing students for state and district mandated testing.
- Participating in and organizing extracurricular activities.
- Working honestly, enthusiastically, and collaboratively with peers in vertical and horizontal planning configurations.
- Active and positive participation in departmental meetings, parent conferences, and whole school professional development.
- Enthusiastically seeking regular observation and feedback, participating in regular professional development, and enthusiastically implementing action steps for continued growth.
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Two years or more of teaching experience, required
- History of demonstrated significant student achievement results, required
- Meet the State of Texas' qualifications for highly qualified teacher, required
- Experience as a special educator in secondary classrooms or in a related capacity in a traditionally underserved community for two or more years, preferred
- Demonstrated strong achievement results and documented growth with students on IEP goals, benchmarks, standardized tests, fluency measures, and reading assessments (STEP, DRA, Fountas & Pinnell, etc.), preferred
- State of Texas Special Education teaching certification, preferred
- Leadership experience, preferred
- Spanish-speaking proficiency, preferred
