Position: Special Education Reading Intervention Teaching Associate

Location: Los Angeles, California (CWC Mar Vista)

Reports to: Principal, and/or Director of Special Education

Capacity: Part-time (29 hours per week)

Position Description

The Special Education Reading Intervention Teaching Associate is an experienced and innovative elementary school educator who is energized by our unique charter school environment. Special Education Reading Intervention Teaching Associate will partner and work closely with other Special Education staff and Lead Teachers to implement a high-quality, rigorous and engaging academic program. Special Education Reading Intervention Teaching Associates must have a passion for and interest in pedagogical practices grounded in constructivism, project-based learning and the multiple intelligences theory.

A Special Education Reading Intervention Teacher Associate's responsibilities include:

  • With guidance from a school staff or teacher, deliver specialized instruction focused on reading, writing, phonics/word study that are high-impact, engaging, and joyful
  • Assist teacher in tailoring instruction to meet individual student academic and social needs with a goal of advancing students to meet their academic achievement targets
  • Collect and maintain active and up to date records on student progress and achievement
  • Support of the implementation of the school's compliance with student Individualized Education Program (IEP); including the implementation of behavioral interventions plans (BIP)
  • Participate in professional development activities, both internal (led by the school's leadership team, lead teachers and experts) and/or external (visiting other schools, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in the charter school community, etc.)
  • Maintenance of frequent communication and engagement with school stakeholders in coordination with classroom teachers, intervention specialists, and school leadership
  • Participation as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles
  • A high-level of professionalism inclusive of meeting deadlines, and commitments to self, students, and the community.
  • Support of the creation of a strong classroom culture that is developed through CWC's social emotional learning focus and contributes to the broader school community.
  • Any other duties, as assigned
